Crown Chakra: Chakra Meditations for the Thousand Petalled Lotus

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

The crown chakra has the rather beautiful alternative name of the ‘thousand petalled lotus’. This multi-layered image is very appropriate as this chakra is at the very center of our super-conscious minds and so can be profoundly influenced by chakra meditations. It represents pure consciousness and is, as you may expect, situated on the very top of the head. It is through this chakra that we link to the universe. As such, it is through this chakra that we accept the energy of the universe into our bodies.

Associations

The crown chakra is thought to lead us to transcendental consciousness. Therefore, it operates power over the brain and the central nervous system, which is why it can be so effectively balanced through meditation.

Energizing your Crown Chakra

Achieving full transcendental conscious takes years of practice and even many yoga experts do not achieve this; however, there are things you can do to increase the energy flow and balance through your crown chakra.

The way to begin is with a basic meditation which will open up your crown chakra. This is very often blocked as we are unwilling to accept the energy of the universe into ourselves.

Meditation

To do this, you need to sit comfortably and ensure your spine is straight. This is because all the man chakras are located along your spine and central nervous column, so freeing up the energy relies on allowing free passage along this channel. This is much easier if you are sat up straight.

Put the first hand you think of on the top of your head, focusing your mind on your crown chakra situated there. Take some deep breathes or do specific breathing exercise you have learned in working with your chakra healing. As you do, focus on the energy in the chakra at the top of your head. You should soon start to feel the energy there. If it helps, thinking of a bright purple light that is shining in your crown chakra.

Opening up your crown chakra and allowing the energy to flow allows you to become at one with the universal energy, heightening your spiritual consciousness; therefore, many things are possible through meditation.

Chakra Colors

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Each major chakra has a color associated with it. The minor chakras may also have colors but I can’t say for sure because I don’t know.

It’s also worth pointing out that traditionalists and modernists have different opinions on the exact colors for the seven major chakras. This is perfectly fine, because true spiritual disciplines recognize the paradox of life:

It is entirely possible for two different realities to occupy the same space and time.

So don’t get hung up on descrepancies you might find while studying the chakra system. Just have fun and empower yourself.

Some healers I have spoken with even say you should let colors come to you intuitively and not worry about any color charts. This too makes a lot of sense.

But for purposes of this article, here is the color system I learned and still use with my chakra meditations:

Base Chakra - Red

Sacral Chakra - Orange

Solar Plexus Chakra - Yellow

Heart Chakra - Green

Throat Chakra - Blue

Third Eye Chakra - Indigo (think of a mixture of blue and purple)

Crown Charka - Purple

Note that different writings and teachers assign different values to each color; i.e. deep red, brilliant yellow, grass green, etc.

But you just need a basic color chart to start working. When you are visualizing your chakras or doing specific breathing/yoga exercises, visualize your body being filled with the appropriately colored energy; some students also imagine their breath is the given color and watch it come in and out with their meditation.

As with any subtle energy channeling, the way you respond to this will be an individual experience. And of course to learn more about the chakras visit our complete chakra system Website.
